As we approach a busier time of year with our Thanksgiving Food Drive and the Christmas Angel Tree project, the St. Francis of Assisi Vincentians would like to reach out to fellow parishioners to consider joining our ministry. We’ll have Vincentians in the church gathering space after each Mass on the weekend of October 20 and 21 to provide information and answer any questions that you might have. Those interested will then be invited to an information meeting on Wednesday, October 24 at 7 pm in the Emmaus Room on the first floor of the San Damiano Building.
Society of St. Vincent de Paul Overview
Inspired by Christ’s words “whatsoever you do for the least of my brethren you do also for me,” the SSVdP is an international Catholic lay charitable organization established in 1833, with volunteers now exceeding 800,00 worldwide.
Here in the Archdiocese of San Antonio, Vincentian volunteers number over 2,000 and operate in 63 parish ministries throughout the Archdiocese’s 166 parishes. At St. Francis of Assisi, our ministry involves three dozen volunteers who operate our office for two hours each weekday, offering help to those in need of food and/or financial assistance with rents & utilities. The generous donations of our parishioners, through the monthly Black Bag collections, food donations, and the Angel Tree project, enable us to help between 90 and 125 families each month. Volunteers can assist in clerical work, casework, home visitations, or pantry operations, and in whatever capacity one’s schedule permits.
For additional information, please visit us after Mass on October 20 or 21 or email Twneubert@aol.com.
