May 15, 1925-February 9, 2020

Delmiro (Dely) Isidro Elizondo passed away on February 9, 2020 at his home in Spicewood, Texas. Dely was born in San Antonio, Texas on May 15, 1925 to Matilde and Aurelia Elizondo. He was the fourth of five children. Dely graduated from Central High School and went to St. Mary’s University.

Dely enlisted in the Navy on November 1, 1943 and was honorably discharged as a Radarman First Class on March 20, 1946. He married Yolanda Olga Garza on August 8, 1946 and had two daughters, Diana Marie 1947 and Mary Alice 1951. He is predeceased by Yolanda, who died in 1963 and by Diana, who died in 2006.

Dely worked at his father’s meat market as a butcher growing up. As an adult, he was a Deputy Sheriff, worked at the home office for Comet Service Stations for many years, had his own business in Spicewood for 15 years and worked for McCoy’s Building Supply for 17 years retiring on January 23, 2020 at the age of 94. He enjoyed working with his hands, hunting, fishing, reading, and parties. We will especially remember him for his smile, laughter, and storytelling. He was always the life of the party!

Dely is survived by his sister, Dora Elizondo Guerra, daughter, Mary Alice Ezzell, son-in-law Michael Ezzell, grandchildren, Kristi Hynes, William Thomas, Stephen Zapata, and great-grandchildren, Samantha and Matthew Hynes. He is also survived by stepchildren Beth Allen, Suann Partlin, Hoppy Williams, step-grandchildren and step-great-grandchildren.

The Rosary will be Friday, February 21, 2020 at 7:00 pm at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church at 4201 De Zavala Road, San Antonio, Texas. The Mass of Resurrection will be Saturday, February 22 at 10:00 am also at St. Francis of Assisi with a reception following the Mass in Henke Hall. The burial will be at a later date.

September 3, 1929-January 29, 2020

Mary Louise (Villegas) Garcia, age 90, went to be with our Lord on Wednesday, January 29, 2020 in Fort Collins, Colorado. Mary Louise was born on September 3, 1929 in San Antonio, TX to Maria Antonia and Eugene Villegas. Mary Louise met her husband, Donato, while they both worked at Kelly Air Force Base. They were married for sixty years until his death in 2018. She retired from Kelly Air Force Base in 1977 after the death of their oldest son, George. Throughout their marriage, Mary Louise and Donato traveled extensively in Mexico, Italy, Spain, France, and Greece. Mary Louise played the guitar, was an artist, an accomplished cook, and a gardener. She worked as an usher for the Spurs and her other activities included volunteering at The Majestic Theater, The Institute of Texan Cultures, and The Suicide Prevention hotline.

She is survived by her sisters, Virginia Espinoza and Anita Zavala; her children, Donna Barbosa (Tony) and Marco Garcia (Cindy); grandchildren, Cory (Ashley), Victoria (Tori), Mathew and Jenna. She is returning to San Antonio to be buried alongside her husband and son at San Fernando Cemetery.

A Rosary will be held at Porter Loring Chapel on McCullough at 7:00 pm on Thursday, February 6, 2020. Mass will be at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church on Friday, February 7, 2020 at 10:00 am followed by the committal service at San Fernando II Cemetery.

October 8, 1939-January 26, 2020

Daniel E. Kasprowicz, age 80, passed away on Sunday, January 26, 2020 at his home in Fair Oaks Ranch with his family by his side. He was born October 8, 1939 to Valeria and Frank Kasprowicz in San Antonio, Texas. Dan served in the United States Air Force and went on to work for Southwestern Bell Corporation for over 25 years. He is preceded in death by his parents and brother Robert Kasprowicz. Dan is survived by his wife of 55 years Beverly Kasprowicz; sons Danny Jr. (Laura), Mark (Julie), and Tim (Michelle); grandchildren Courtney, Evan (Bethany), Erin, and Keegan; great grandchild Kolbe; 7 siblings; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and a lifetime of friends.

Betty Gavora of San Antonio, TX, entered eternal rest on January 3, 2020, at the age of 84. She passed away peacefully with her family by her side at the hour of noon—when the sun is at its highest point and shadows are at their shortest; often viewed as the best part of the day. Betty always loved the best of things and she always saw the best in others.

Betty was born and raised in San Antonio, TX, where she graduated from Thomas A. Edison High School. She went on to earn a Bachelor’s degree in Journalism from Trinity University and a Master’s degree in Organizational Communication from Lamar University. She met her husband in the Netherlands and moved with him to Canada where she had her son, Mark, in 1966.

She spent her impressive career working as a corporate communication specialist and had the distinguished honor of serving a Congressional Internship in Washington, D.C. for the late Congressman Henry B. Gonzales.

Betty was also an educator; a professor at Lamar and a teacher at a local prison. She spoke fondly of her work and had a particular passion for mentoring and inspiring prison students through her speech communications classes. Betty’s heartfelt respect for them was truly reciprocated. For instance, when she would walk through the prison to her classroom, her students would call out, “Step aside! Our teacher is coming through!” Instantly, the crowds of inmates would part to create a path for their highly-regarded teacher.

In 1999, Betty’s son, Mark, married Lizbeth in Guadalajara, MX. Liz rounded out Betty’s life by becoming her daughter-in-love.

In 2002, Betty retired from Entergy (formerly GSU) located in Beaumont, TX. She spent just shy of 20 years with the company and rose through the ranks to her pinnacle role as Communications Senior Lead Specialist.

After retirement, Betty moved back to her hometown of San Antonio to be closer to family. There, she continued her avid involvement in professional organizations. In 2016, she won the Toastmasters’ Great Oratory Performance Award for delivery of a speech called “Make the Most of Your Dash,” a tribute to her sister who strove to make the most of life while battling terminal cancer. Betty was also deemed a Lifelong Member of Executive Women International (EWI), an organization for women in business that focuses on professional growth and the community. She held her EWI sisters and the work of the group close to her heart for nearly 50 years.

Betty was professionally accomplished, but she was also skilled at enjoying the finer things in life such as world travel, gourmet cuisine, renowned musical performances, high fashion, and, of course, the finest of all basketball teams, 5-time NBA Champions, the San Antonio Spurs! Go Spurs go! Betty was a proud and active member of two Red Hat Society clubs, providing her with treasured friendships and fun for over a decade.

Betty joins her parents, Frank and Dorothy Steitle, her brother, Jimmy Steitle, and her sister, Gina Wilson, in Heaven. She is survived by her loving son, Mark Gavora, and devoted daughter-in-law, Lizbeth, both with whom she held a special bond. Their two children, Faith and Christopher, were the light of their Grandma Betty’s world.

Colonel Jose G. Alonzo, U.S. Marine Corps, Retired, went to the Lord on January 3, 2020 at the age of 79. He was born on December 13, 1940 in Musquiz, Coahuila, Mexico. He is preceded in death by his parents, Juan and Socorro Alonzo; brothers Juan, Hilario and Dionisio Alonzo; sisters Asuncion Alvarez and Aurora Vallejo.

He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Irma Luna Alonzo; daughters, Lisa Alonzo Belus, Michelle Alonzo Huff and son, Joey Alonzo; grandchildren Carissa Huff, Billy Huff, Jakob Alonzo, Amelie Alonzo, Michael Huff, James Huff, Lauren Huff; brother, Arturo G. Alonzo; and sister-in-law, Amparo Alonzo (wife of Dionisio).

Jose completed secondary schooling in Mexico and came to Uvalde, Texas at the age of 15. He attended 8^th grade at Sacred Heart Catholic School and graduated from Uvalde High School in 1961. He earned a bachelor’s degree in education from Southwest Texas State University in San Marcos. He later received master’s degrees from Pepperdine University and the University of Texas in San Antonio.

Jose joined the Marine Corp in October of 1965. His military career took him all over the United States as well as several overseas assignments, including Iceland, Turkey, Greece, England, Germany, Central America, and South America. Upon graduation from Officer’s Candidate School, Jose served the U.S. Marine Corp as a Logistic Officer, Supply Officer, and Basic Signals Intelligence/Electronics Warfare Officer. He served two tours of duty in Vietnam. His decorations and citations include the National Defense Service Medal, Several Marksmanship Badges, Vietnam Service Medal, Navy Unit Commendation, Vietnam Commendation Medal, Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal, Republic of Vietnam Meritorious Unit Citation (Gallantry Cross Medal color with palm), Navy Commendation Medal, Joint Service Commendation Medal, Legion of Merit, Overseas Service Ribbon, and many other decorations.

Upon his military retirement in 1994, he went into public education as a teacher, vice principal, and principal. He also served as a counselor for veterans of the armed services at San Antonio College for several years. His hobbies included Bible study and dinner groups, socializing, volunteering with Meals and Wheels, and traveling all over the country. He was a voracious reader, an avid gym-goer, and as a lover of history, participated in a history club.

Though Jose experienced a life filled with achievements and accolades, he remained a kind, and tender man, never forgetting his humble beginnings. He was completely devoted to the love of his life, Irma, and he loved his children, grandchildren, nieces, and nephews. His smile and warm embrace will be missed by his family. Jose is now resting in the arms of our Lord, but the passing of this good, good man leaves a void in the hearts of his family and friends.

John Phillip Toscano entered eternal rest on November 27, 2019 at the age of 67 in San Antonio, Texas.

A private visitation and Rosary will be held for immediate family at 6:00 PM on Sunday, December 8, 2019 at Sunset North Funeral Home.

Public funeral services will be held at 10:00 AM on Monday, December 9, 2019 at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church in San Antonio. Following the service, a reception will be held in Henke Hall at St. Francis with light refreshments. Funeral arrangements are being handled by Sunset North Funeral Home.

John was born to Mateo and Angela “Lee” (Tarricone) Toscano in Rochester, New York, on October 17, 1952. He graduated from the University of Buffalo in 1975 with his Bachelor of Science degree in Pharmacy and continued his education at the University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio, receiving his Doctor of Pharmacy in 1978. He married Ann on May 24, 1975 in Rochester, New York; they were married for 44 years.

Before moving to San Antonio in 2012, John was a resident of Minnesota and worked as a Clinical Pharmacy Specialist at the Minneapolis VA Medical Center for 31 years. For his outstanding performance and Federal service, he was honored with the distinguished title “Civil Servant of the Year” by the Federal Executive Board. He also had a love of teaching and was a Clinical Assistant Professor at the University of Minnesota College of Pharmacy for 33 years.

John was eccentric and interesting, and extremely smart, caring, and generous. He and his wife belonged to Mary, Mother of the Church in Burnsville, Minnesota where they served as a Region Representatives of Parish Council for six years, and as Eucharistic Ministers for 25 years. After moving to Texas, John became a member of St. Thomas the Apostle Church in Canyon Lake, Texas and St. Francis of Assisi in San Antonio, Texas. John was passionate about Ham Radio, clinical research, photography, and computers. He also loved the outdoors, reading, and spending time with his family and pets. He was a past member of the American Society of Hospital Pharmacists, Twin Cities Repeater Club, and Northern Lights Radio Society, and a current member of the Roadrunner Microwave Group and Radio Amateur Satellite Corporation.

John is now reunited with his parents, Mateo and Angela “Lee” (Tarricone) Toscano. He leaves behind to cherish his memories his wife, Ann Toscano (Bozewicz); daughter, Kathryn Vo and husband John; son, Michael Toscano and wife Kerry; grandchildren: Benjamin, Charlotte, Adelynn, and Nora; brother, Martin Toscano and wife Shannon; and numerous other relatives and friends.

John had the biggest heart, a sincere desire to help others, and will be forever missed and forever remembered as a loving husband, father, and grandfather.

The family of John Toscano wishes to extend our sincere thanks to the doctors, nurses, and staff at North Central Baptist Hospital for their excellent and loving care over the many weeks they had him as their patient.

Joan Patricia Bohl was born on December 26, 1930 on the family ranch in Whitsett, Texas to John and Ruth McCowen. She passed from the arms of her loving family to the arms of our Lord Jesus Christ on November 13, 2019. Joan graduated from The University of the Incarnate Word in 1956 with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Nursing. Joan was a servant-hearted professional, starting her career with the San Antonio Health Department, followed by a nearly 40-year career as the Head Nurse for the Harlandale Independent School District, which allowed her flexibility to spend time with her family and passion to work with children. Joan and her husband cherished their association with many friends, especially the St. Luke’s Catholic Church “Holy Spirit Family Guild” that was founded in 1961. Joan will always be remembered for her unconditional love for her family, kindness, strong work ethic, and seeing the best in everyone.

Joan was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Roy, of 45 years, and her parents, John and Ruth McCowen. She is survived by her children, Mark Bohl (Darla), Cathy Scales (Steve), Patricia McLeod (Doug), and Ann Bohl Deacon (Charlie). She is also survived by her grandchildren whom she adored, Troy Bohl, Brittany Smith, Tina Haden, John Housman, Samantha Mooty and Michael Karpienski, and her treasured great-grandchildren, Noel Bohl, Camden Bohl, Crew Bohl, Chapman Bohl, Gwen Smith, Emma Haden, Elijah Haden and Carter Haden. She is also survived by her two loving sisters, Marjorie MacMurdo and Lucy Krouskop.

Albert C. Esquivel, Sr., age 86, went to be with the Lord on November 11, 2019 surrounded by his family. Albert was born on April 8, 1933 in San Antonio, TX to Lauro Esquivel and Alvesia Cuellar Esquivel. Albert graduated from San Antonio College and went on to receive his Bachelor’s Degree from St. Mary’s University. Albert received his Master’s Degree from Trinity University where he learned the skills to prepare him for a long career in law enforcement. Albert retired from the Illinois Department of Corrections after 32 years of service as a warden. Albert married the love of his life. He and Lydia shared 60 beautiful years together as a loving couple. He was a wonderful husband, father, and grandfather. He loved his family and will be remembered by the many lives that he touched.

He was preceded in death by his parents; siblings, Bill and Frank Esquivel and Minerva Guerrero. Albert is survived by his wife, Lydia L. Esquivel; daughter, Lydia Ann Bauer (Donald) and son, Albert (ACE) Jr., (Sally); grandchildren, Donnie and Drew Bauer and Fawn Ann Esquivel; three great-grandsons; brother, George Esquivel and sister, Rosalinda Esquivel.

William “Bill” Schuh, 87, passed away peacefully at his home, November 5, 2019. He was born in San Antonio, TX to August and Alvina Schuh. He was a graduate of Central Catholic High School and St. Mary’s University. He had a long career as a CPA. He was a partner for many years at Ernst & Young. In his spare time, he loved to hunt, fish, and travel with his wife, Jerry. He loved spending time with his family at the lake, the coast, and especially Garner State Park, where he met his wife. In his later years, he loved spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Jerry Ann Vetters Schuh, and his sister, Evelyn Jordan. William is survived by his children, Sharon Schuh, Martin Schuh (Jodie), and Becky Moe (Doug); his grandchildren, Kimberly (Allen), Stephen (Liesl), Scott, Meagan, Madison and Mallory; and great-grandchildren, Nicholas, Sawyer, and Piper. The family will receive friends from 5:30 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Monday, November 11, 2019, at Porter Loring Mortuary North.
