Wreaths Across America Ceremony

American Heritage Girls Troop TX3145 thanks you for your donations of over 400 wreaths for its annual Wreaths Across America fundraiser. We invite you to the Wreaths Across America ceremony this Saturday, December 14 at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery (1520 Harry Wurzbach Rd., San Antonio, TX 78209). The troop will arrive between 9:30 and 10:00 in the morning, and the ceremony begins at 11:00 am. The ceremony will have beautiful music, moving speakers, a dove release, and patriotic programs.

Once the ceremony ends, people will disperse to the various sections of the cemetery and get in line for wreaths. As a troop, we have adopted Sect 16 of the cemetery and committed to laying 300 wreaths.  Section 16 is located on the right-hand side after you drive under a bridge (Nursery Road) and before a circular drive with flags. We will take a group picture and lay one on the grave of Fr. Tony’s father and disperse to lay one wreath per grave. Please remember to say a prayer for the person when laying the wreath and leave the provided penny on top. A penny on the headstone is a military tradition notifying families that someone visited their loved one’s grave. Once a wreath and penny are laid, they are to stay. Do not pick up and move them to another grave. We’d love for everyone to join us, but do what is best for your family. Once this is done, you are free to leave or stay. We hope to wrap up between 1-1:30 pm.
For those of you with grave specific requests, we will lay the wreaths in our section and then break off to fulfill any of our individual grave specific commitments.

There is parking at the cemetery. There’s only one entrance through the main gate off Harry Wurzbach. It is monitored by security, so it will take a while to get in. Follow the line of cars turning in.
