Youth Faith Formation
Let us teach your children about Jesus and form their faith early. We have programs that guide them in the teachings of the Church and provide opportunities to practice their faith through prayer and outreach. We offer faith formation programs for children in pre-school, elementary, middle, and high school levels.
Catechist teachers volunteer their time to teach children about Catholicism. Full curriculum and classroom management training is provided. Catechists serve the parish by forming our youth in the faith.
Catechumenate for Children
Catechumenate for Children (Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults [R.C.I.A.] adapted for children) is a program for families with children over age 7 who seek baptism.
College Life is a faith sharing ministry that helps college-aged young adults (18–25) stay connected to the Church after high school. Gatherings are based on small group discussions. College Life meets on Monday at 7:00 pm in the St. JP II Room. Enrollment in a college or university is not required. All young adults are welcome. Please contact Monica Harness at email@example.com for more information.
Elementary Faith Formation
Elementary Faith Formation provides a small group environment where children kindergarten through 5th grade learn our Catholic faith guided by catechists and an accredited curriculum. Classes meet weekly September–May. Please contact the front office for details regarding registration. Volunteer catechists, workroom assistants, substitutes, and caregivers are needed.
Sacramental Preparation for Reconciliation and First Communion is a home-based preparation program in which parents, with the guidance of our formation team, prepare their children to receive the Sacraments of Reconciliation and Communion. Children need to be at least in the second grade and in their second consecutive year of faith formation to enroll in the Sacramental Preparation program. Please contact Miriam Flores at firstname.lastname@example.org for more information.
Edge is the faith formation component of our middle school youth ministry. It is created specifically for 6th–8th grade students and leads them closer to Christ and His Church. An Edge Night consists of prayer, games, skits, large group catechesis, and small group discussions. It provides a safe, fun place for youth to find a solid Catholic community, to get answers to their questions about faith, and to experience Jesus in a personal way. High school juniors and seniors, as well as adults, serve as Core Members. Edge gathers on Tuesday at 7:00 pm in the St. JP II Room. Please contact Monica Harness at email@example.com for more information.
Middle School Faith Formation
Middle School Faith Formation Classes are set in a traditional classroom environment as an alternative to Edge. Classes focus on learning more about scripture through video and/or lectionary-based Bible studies. Classes are for youth in 6th–8th grade and meet from 10:00–11:00 on Sunday morning or at 3:45–4:45 on Sunday afternoon.
Home-School Faith Formation
Home-school Faith Formation is provided as an option for families of elementary students who cannot attend our weekly classes. Homeschooling provides families with the curriculum needed to guide parents in instructing their children in the faith. The Second Saturdays for homeschool families is an optional gathering for homeschool families to grow in community with other homeschool families. The program includes prayer, lessons based on the liturgical season, faith sharing and fun for the whole family.
Life Teen is the faith formation component of our high school youth ministry. It is a Eucharist-centered movement within the Catholic Church that leads teenagers and their families into a deeper relationship with Jesus Christ and His Church. Life Teen seeks to unleash the fullness of the Sacramental power present within the young Church. A Life Night consists of prayer, large group catechesis, and small group discussions. Adults of all ages minister to the teens by serving as Core Members. Life Teen gathers after the Sunday 5:00 pm Mass in the St. JP II Room. Please contact Monica Harness at firstname.lastname@example.org for more information.
Pre-School Faith Formation
Pre-School Faith Formation classes meet on the first Friday of every month. Children are taught about Jesus through various scriptural studies.
Teen ACTS Retreats
Teen ACTS Retreats spread the Gospel of Jesus Christ among the teens through peer to peer ministry. Teens grow in their spirituality through Adoration, Community, Theology, and Service. Retreats are rooted in the Paschal Mystery of our Lord. Teens and adults that have attended an ACTS Retreat as a retreatant make up the team. Please contact Monica Harness at email@example.com for more information.
Teen Confirmation preparation begins during the candidate’s junior year of high school. Preparation consists of weekly classes, a retreat, and community service that lead up to the confirmation Mass with the Archbishop in late spring. Please contact Monica Harness at firstname.lastname@example.org for more information.
Teen Mission Trip
Teen Mission Trip was established in 2002 as a service component for our high school youth ministry program. Incoming seniors and adults travel to Eagle Pass to serve the community of Sacred Heart Catholic Church. The group spends a week working in the construction and remodeling of homes and catechetical centers in Las Colonias. Morning and evening prayer is led by the teens before heading out to work for the day. Teens also lead Vacation Bible School for the children of the area. Please contact Monica Harness at email@example.com for more information.
Vacation Bible School
Vacation Bible School offers children 4-years-old through 5th grade a 5-day, fun-filled, faith experience. Participants make new friends, hear Bible stories and learn Catholic traditions and values through music, games crafts and fellowship. Please contact Miriam Flores at firstname.lastname@example.org for more information.
Middle School Vacation Bible School
Middle School Vacation Bible School offers students entering 6th, 7th, and 8th grade a program that runs in conjunction with our VBS program. Middle schoolers spend time with their peers engaging in bible study, faith sharing and playing plenty of games. Volunteers for VBS and Middle School VBS should be adults or teens entering at least the 9th grade or higher.
