October 8, 1941-May 23, 2022

Robert A. Acosta left peacefully on May 23rd with his wife Lisa Acosta and sister Pauline Enriquez by his side. He was first diagnosed with cancer in 2005 and then battled cancer four other times with remission in between. This last battle taking him from us.

Robert is a 1960 graduate of Sidney Lanier High School. He moved to Georgia where he attended Mercer University and received his Bachelor of Science in Pharmacy. He was a Pharmacist at Skillern’s and then Revco. Later he worked as a Pharmacy Manager for H-E-B, where he retired after 27 years.

Robert lived a wonderful life with his wife, Lisa, of 29 years. Lisa cared for him and didn’t want it any other way. Everyone who knew them could see the love that they both shared for each other. They met each other at H-E-B. Robert loved teasing his wife and making her laugh. They were both proud parents of their fur babies, Bobo, Sofie, and most recently Ali & Mo.

Robert leaves behind his only child, Elizabeth Ann Chapa. Ann followed her Dad’s footsteps into pharmacy and is currently a Pharmacy Manager at Kroger in Tennessee. He adored his daughter and was very proud of her. Robert always protected his daughter and looked out for her. She would call him and they would talk about her pharmacy issues and together they would try to solve the problems. Till the very end, he still protected his daughter and passed after she left. She spent his last week with her Daddy, and he told her that he couldn’t have asked for a better daughter. The love those two shared was beautiful to see when you would see them together. They are both one of a kind.

Robert also has two grandchildren, Jonathan Chapa and Lauren Chapa. Both are graduates and working on their careers. Their Grandpa would like to make fun of them and tell them how they were when they were little. Jonathan ran around the house saying he was a big boy, and Lauren cried for everything. Robert and his grandson share the same passion for Corvettes and now has his grandfather’s Vet. His granddaughter, Lauren, skipped Spring Break this year to come to see her grandpa and care for him as he was battling cancer. She even did an April Fool’s joke on him and his wife, Lisa, posted it on TikTok. We all laughed together and he said, “you got me.“ I know that Robert will cherish these memories of the love his granddaughter had for him.

His son-in-law, Manuel Chapa, always had a list of things to do from Robert each time he came into town. Robert didn’t trust anyone to do any of these jobs because he said “Lisa, Manuel is a perfectionist and he always gets the job done right where I don’t have to fix or redo it.”

He also had, what we would call them, two adopted grandchildren. First adopted grandchild, Jacob Vosberg. Robert would always remember when Jacob was around 4 or 5 years old and wanted to help him wash his car with his Mom’s expensive bath towel. Jacob and Robert would share talks outside each time they saw each other. Robert was very proud of him for becoming a doctor. Second grandchild, Maddie Sessler, would decorate outside for Christmas and Halloween. Robert always said he had a good helper with him and it was Maddie.

Robert was a great big brother to his sister, Pauline Enriquez. He called her every day to check on her and they talked about their favorite shows NCIS & Criminal Minds. His sister, Pauline, always remembered when she was in high school and her brother bought her a formal dress, long gloves, and shoes so that she could go to prom in style. His baby brother was Paul Acosta. Someone asked him how old is your baby brother? He said 70 but to Robert, Paul was always his baby brother. Robert made sure that his baby brother had a baseball bat and gloves so that he could play ball when he was little. He was always looking after them. Weeks before he passed he bought his baby brother a winter knit cap to keep him warm. Towards the end, Robert would ask for his brother to come to pray over him, and now his baby brother was looking after his big brother, Robert.

After his father, Miguel C. Acosta, Jr., passed away he would come to see his mother Concepcion Perez every day. They would have breakfast and discuss what was happening in their life. He would bring his mother her prescriptions and make sure she had what she needed. As a kid, he would come home from school during lunch and his mother would have either a steak or sandwich waiting for him because he didn’t like the school lunch. Robert always remembered his father baking pies, jelly rolls, cakes, and bisques.

Robert leaves behind many friends and family that will deeply miss him. He was a unique, loving, and handsome man who everyone loved once you met him.

Robert, go be with your parents and Bobo & Sofie. Your sister asked your Mom to have homemade fried chicken and a slice of lemon meringue pie waiting for you. I will love you forever, Robert.

His wife, Lisa Acosta, would also like to give a heartfelt special thanks to Dr. Drengler, his oncologist, who gave Robert exceptional care, as well as Nurse PA Wendy and Andy. Also, Three Oaks Hospice Nurse Celia and Chaplain Charlie for their comforting words and help through his final hours.

Roberts hands will be draped with a handmade rosary made by his nephew, Rudy Enriquez, and a necklace especially blessed for him also from his nephew.

Robert will be remembered at Porter Loring North’s funeral home on June 14. In lieu of a Rosary, a Celebration of Life will be from 5-8 pm. A Rosary will be given out so that you can pray for Robert in a private setting at your convenience. A memorial Mass will be held at 11 am on June 15 at St Francis of Assisi at 4201 De Zavala Road followed by his burial at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery at 1520 Harry Wurzbach Rd, San Antonio, TX 78209, at 1 pm, where he will receive full honors to be laid to rest.

August 29, 1933-June 3, 2022

Margaret Ann Wolf, age 88, passed away on Friday, June 3, 2022, in San Antonio, Texas, at the Village at Incarnate Word where she had been a resident since January 2015. She was born on August 29, 1933, in San Antonio, Texas, to Dr. Edwin Leo Mueller and Nellie Salter Mueller. Margaret received most of her education from the Sisters of Charity of the Incarnate Word, CCVI – first in elementary school at St. Peter Prince of the Apostles and later at Incarnate Word campus for high school and college where she completed her studies obtaining a BS in Elementary Education.  Margaret was active in school and participated in various clubs, including being President of the Student Council in high school, choir, and basketball. As young children, Margaret and her brothers and sisters, Nellie, Eddie, Jack, Betty, Jimmy, and Bill enjoyed spending the summer months at Lake McQueeney where they would meet their cousins for skiing, boating, and swimming. Margaret often participated in the Lake Breeze ski show.

On February 12, 1955, Margaret married Richard (Dick) Louis Wolf, a 1^st Lieutenant pilot stationed at Hondo Air Force Base. She and Dick settled in Dallas and raised seven children: Laura, Anna, Susan, Barbara, Martha, David, and John. Margaret was active with her children’s school activities where she volunteered at their schools, churches, and Presbyterian Hospital. Later, in San Antonio, she participated in church organizations such as Silver Stars, The Rosary Society, Mobile Loaves and Fishes, and Meals on Wheels. The family enjoyed many trips across America in the family station wagon, as it was important to both Margaret and Dick that the children could see and experience the different areas of the country. Margaret’s children all married, and she enjoyed spending time with their families and her 13 grandchildren.

Dick began showing signs of Alzheimer’s disease at the early age of 54 and passed away on October 6, 1998. Margaret was very active with the Alzheimer’s Association in the years leading up to and after his death—helping those dealing with the hardships of this disease.

Margaret married her widowed brother-in-law, Howard M. Wolf, on August 14, 1999, expanding the family to include 6 stepchildren and 14 step-grandchildren. Howard and Margaret enjoyed travel with family and friends and spent their summers in Illinois at their lake house on Wonder Lake, and winters at their house in San Antonio.

In 2015, Margaret and Howard moved into the Village at Incarnate Word, where they lived together until Howard passed on March 26, 2018. Margaret remained at the Village enjoying the companionship of the Sisters and her friends. She attended daily Mass and assisted twice a week taking Holy Communion to those in Nursing Care.

Margaret was preceded in death by her daughter, Anna Klein and son-in-law, Chuck Klein; parents, Dr. Edwin and Nellie Mueller; siblings, Nellie Kothmann, Dr. Edwin Mueller, Dr. Jack Mueller, Betty Conley, and Reverend James Mueller, S.M.

Margaret is survived by her brother, William Mueller, DDS (Jean); and her children, Laura Spears (Berry), Susan Robertson (Larry), Barbara Byrd (Mark), Martha Wolf (Rosa), David Wolf (Susan), and John Wolf (Dawn); and her grandchildren Emily Brown (Jake), Blake Johnson, Brian Robertson (Lauren), Katie Collins (Greg), Andy Spears (Emily), Ellie Walker (Kevin), Chris Wolf, Kelly Klein, Jason Wolf, Michelle Klein, Nicole Wolf, Amanda Busker (Dillon), Sara Ahaus (Todd); and 8 great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends at 6:00 P.M., Tuesday, June 14, at Porter Loring Mortuary.

June 25, 1929-May 9, 2022

SMS Charles Barleman Guzman, retired USAF, passed away on Monday, May 9, 2022, at the age of 92. During his career in the Air Force, he served in Japan, Korea, the Philippines, and Spain.

He was awarded the Air Force Meritorious Service Medal, Air Force Commendation Medal, Korean Service Medal, United Nations Medal as well as the Air Force Defense Medal. He was very proud to have served his country.

Charles worked at Kelly Air Force Base as a logistics management specialist where he retired in 1983. Charles loved to walk and jog around his neighborhood with his dog and sing and play the guitar. He did volunteer work at Brooks AFB, Lackland AFB, St. Paul Catholic Church, St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church, and Oasis. Charles was a member of the St. Vincent de Paul Society and the Nocturnal Adoration Society.

He is survived by one brother, Albert Barleman Guzman, and sister-in-law Mary Louise; nieces, Patricia Guzman and Lisa A. Ybarra her husband, Eddie; nephew, Mark A. Guzman and his wife, Melissa. In addition, he is survived by great-nieces, Lauren Fabac with her husband, Collin, and Lianna Ybarra; and great-nephews, Jacob Ybarra, Alexander Guzman, and Anthony Guzman; as well as his sweet schnauzer Kellie.

The family will receive friends beginning at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday, May 24, 2022, at Central Catholic High School Chapel, Kahlig-Cowie Convocation Center.

July 20, 1958-May 28, 2022

Adolfo “Fito” Alberto Duran, age 63 went home to our Lord on Saturday, May 28, 2022 in San Antonio, Texas. Alberto was born July 20, 1958 in Cadereyta Jiménez, Nuevo León, Mexico to Adolfo Duran and Irma Salas.

Alberto leaves behind to cherish his memory his loving wife, Maria Duran; daughter, Irma Iris Duran (Rodriguez); son, Mario Duran; son-in-law, Curtis Alan Rodriguez; granddaughters, Paulina Marcela and Jeannette Alejandra Rodriguez; siblings, Javier Duran (Sylvia de la Garza), Irma Duran (Santos Cantu), Diana Duran (Benito Gonzalez); his uncle, Abelardo Salas (Amelia Perez), and various cousins, nephews, and nieces.

Alberto meets in Heaven his parents, Adolfo Duran and Irma Salas.

Alberto became first in his class at the Universidad Autonoma de Nuevo Leon, and was selected to study engineering in the United States as an exchange student. Alberto received a Bachelors of Architecture and Engineering from the same university. After graduation, he rapidly rose through the ranks in various South Texas precast firms, and during one of those assignments is when he enrolled in courses to improve his English. That is where he met Maria, marrying soon after in San Benito, Texas and having two children before transferring to San Antonio. They were married for 39 years.

Alberto owned his own precast consulting business for 22 years. After a brief retirement, his drive to constantly work and mentor brought him to work at Napco, where he had celebrated three years.

Alberto embraced a love of art, sketching, and painting. He originally wanted to be a painter when his mother directed him into architecture. A wonderful singer, he was a patron of musicians and regularly attended live music evenings, including karaoke parties. He served for various years as vice-president and president of the San Antonio Charro Association, which led him to be an active member in the San Antonio Fiesta Commission, serving on the board of directors.

Throughout Alberto’s life, he was consistently studying, reading, and learning. He was a rational and scientific man, thinking ahead and considering details. He would use this knowledge and sensibility to guide and mentor both family and ‘adopted family.’ He had a sense of humor and liked joking around. He was an honorable, honest man that valued transparency and communication. He was a generous man, often giving to individuals and organizations from his pocket without a second thought. He was a perfectionist and would get annoyed at the slightest discrepancy in order for him and those around him to achieve excellence.

In his later years, he made the time for his granddaughters, time that he couldn’t have with his children, caring for and raising them. He was a strict and traditional father that valued family first, and no matter how busy, would put things aside for his family and friends. Alberto will be remembered for having the biggest heart, the biggest brain, and the biggest smile.

A visitation for Alberto will be held Wednesday, June 8, 2022 from 6:00 PM to 9:00 PM with a Rosary beginning at 7:00 PM at Sunset North Funeral Home, 910 North Loop 1604 East, San Antonio, TX 78232. A funeral Mass will occur the following day, Thursday, June 9, 2022 at 11:30 AM at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church, 4201 De Zavala Rd, San Antonio, TX 78249.

October 1, 1943-May 17, 2022

Nestor Odell Caldera Langschwager, age 78, of San Antonio, passed away on Tuesday, May 17, 2022. He was born in Nicaragua to Odell Caldera and Hella Langschwager in 1943. He was the second oldest of six children and was raised in Managua, Nicaragua. His education culminated in a Master’s Degree in Economics at the American University in Washington, D.C. Nestor worked as an executive at the Central Bank of Nicaragua (Banco Central de Nicaragua). He then served as an Executive Director at the International Monetary Fund in Washington, D.C. He was also the Economic Attaché at the Nicaraguan Embassy in Washington, D.C.

Nestor returned with his family to Nicaragua from Washington D.C., during the Sandinista Revolution in the late 1970’s. They lived in Nicaragua a few years until they were ultimately forced to immigrate to the United States in 1981, to escape the civil war. He relocated his family to Miami, Florida, to start a new life. Nestor later moved his family to Houston, Texas, and opened a perfume store at the Galleria Mall called “Etoile.” Nestor grew the successful business to five stores in both Houston and San Antonio. The business thrived for over 30 years until his retirement.

Nestor and his beloved wife, Stella, enjoyed traveling and seeing the world. They spent their retirement together and ultimately moved to San Antonio. The couple loved each other and were inseparable. Nestor was a movie buff, he loved tennis, racquetball, and swimming, and he frequently returned to Nicaragua to visit friends and family. He drank vino tinto, Flor de Caña, and loved a good steak. His wit, charm, and warmth will be greatly missed by all.

Nestor is survived by his wife, Stella, as well as his two daughters, Hella Scheuerman and Stella Shows. He is also survived by four of his six siblings: Vernon, Dennis, Rita, and Marcia. Nestor had four grandchildren: Colin, Sofia, Garrett, and Karina.

Fr. Tony Vilano will celebrate the Funeral Mass of the Resurrection at 1 pm on Friday, June 3 at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church.

September 12, 1938-February 16, 2022

Hector Vidal Huertas went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, February 16, 2022 after a short illness. He was born in Vieques, Puerto Rico on September 12, 1938 to Providencio and Prudencia Figueroa Huertas.

He proudly served in the U.S. Army for over 22 years, including two tours in Vietnam where he was awarded a Purple Heart. Upon his military retirement, he graduated from the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor in Belton, Texas, and he returned to serving our nation as a civil servant.

Once fully retired, he was a full-time golfer and world traveler, never letting the grass grow under his feet. He took great pride in mentoring and spoiling his grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his beloved wife Maria and his son Hector V. “Tito” Huertas, Jr. He is survived by his son Lawrence (Yvonne) Huertas of California, his son Luis Huertas of New Jersey, his son Hector T. (Susan) Huertas of Pueblo, Colorado, his daughters Jenny Sprute and Erlinda (Edward) Feigenbaum of San Antonio Texas. His is also survived by his pride and joy, his grandchildren Zack, Laura, Hannah, Ashley, Avril, and his great-grandchildren Benjamin, Evie, and Tieni who all loved him and will miss him dearly.

The Funeral Mass of Resurrection will be celebrated at 11:30 am on Thursday, May 26, 2022 at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church. Burial with military honors will take place at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery at 2 pm.

Michael Paul Duggan, 64 years old, passed away May 2, 2022, after a three-month battle with brain cancer.

January 26, 1924-April 22, 2022

Ruby Nash Wilson, age 98, passed away in Austin, Texas on April 22, 2022. She was born in rural Roff, Oklahoma on January 26, 1924. As an Air Force wife, she moved frequently with her husband, Bob, before settling in Shavano Park, Texas where they lived for 45 years. In 2015, they celebrated their 70^th wedding anniversary in their Shavano Park home. The next year, they moved to Austin to be near their daughters.  Bob passed away in 2017.

As an active member of the St. Frances of Assisi Catholic Church, Ruby helped organize the Society of the Rosary and served as its chairperson for 20 years. She and Bob were charter members of the St. Francis senior group, the Silver Stars.

Ruby was a skilled seamstress and an accomplished artist but above all was a devoted wife and mother. She is survived by two daughters and their husbands, Claudia and Dan Anderson and Charlotte Wilson and Mike Roberts; a grandson, Robert Anderson, his wife Rebecca Deason and their daughters Emma and Elizabeth; and a granddaughter, Judith Jones, her husband, John Jones and their sons Carter and Dylan.

We will celebrate Ruby’s life at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church on Monday, May 9, 2022. We will pray the Rosary at 11:30 am, celebrate Mass at 12 pm, hold a reception in Henke Hall immediately following the Mass, and go to Holy Cross for the burial at 3 pm.

May 28, 1929-April 18, 2022

Rose Ann Feise was born in San Antonio, Texas. She was a charter member at St. Gregory the Great Catholic Church. She was a member of the Altar Society for many years. Her biggest joy was maintaining and planting the flower beds around the church. She later attended St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Her true love Jack, her husband, her son, Chris, and her daughter, Rosemary.

She is survived by daughters, Kathy (husband, Sam) and Patricia (husband, Bob), sons, David (wife Jill) and Jack, 9 grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren.

Services will be celebrated on Wednesday, April 27, 2022 at St. Gregory the Great Catholic Church, 700 Dewhurst Dr., San Antonio, Texas 78213. Rosary will be recited at 12:30 pm with the funeral Mass at 1:00 pm followed by burial at Holy Cross Cemetery.

Barbara Bell, 67, of San Antonio, TX, passed away on Tuesday, April 5, 2022 after a 26-year battle with breast and ovarian cancer. Her legacy will live on through her impact as a loving mother, devoted wife, and kind and empathetic friend, who cared deeply for others. She was a life-long learner who greatly appreciated the beauty of art. Barbara’s courageous spirit was an inspiration to many women in their own cancer journeys.

Barbara was born on May 28, 1954 to James and Rose Marie Schultes in Springfield, MO. After graduating from St. Agnes High School as the salutatorian in 1972, she continued her academic career at the University of Kansas earning Bachelor’s of Science degrees in microbiology and medical technology in 1976. Upon graduation, she moved to Kansas City to pursue a career in medical technology, working for the University of Kansas Medical Center. During her time at the University of Kansas, she met classmate Dr. Randall “Randy” Clarence Bell. In September 1977, they reconnected in Kansas City. Their connection was immediate and built the foundation for what would be a 42-year marriage. They were married on June 23, 1979 at St. Agnes Catholic Church in Springfield, MO.

They moved to San Antonio in 1981 for Randy to pursue a fellowship in pulmonary medicine and where Barbara joined the Oncology Department of The University of Texas Health Science Center. They went on to have two children, Jason Randall and Jennifer Lynn. In 1983, Barbara transitioned out of the medical field to focus on raising their children. Beyond her role as a devoted wife and mother, she was an avid volunteer holding roles with numerous organizations, including the PTA President at Locke Hill Selma Elementary School and Vice President at Hobby Middle School, Secretary of the Planning and Zoning Commission of Shavano Park, docent at the McNay Art Museum, the San Antonio Junior Forum, the Bexar County Medical Alliance, the San Antonio Symphony League, and the San Antonio Conservation Society. Her faith was a central piece of who she was, having spent her entire life as a devout Catholic. She attended St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church for nearly 40 years where she held countless service roles, including its Mobile Loaves & Fishes outreach and its ACTS Retreats, and her impact was far-reaching. Barbara was predeceased by her parents, James and Rose Marie; mother-in-law, Lylah Bell; and first grandchild, McCall Kennedy Bell. She is survived by her husband of 42 years, Randy; son Jason, his wife Alyson Bell, and their children, Baker McCall Bell and Brooklyn Kennedy Bell; daughter, Jennifer; sister, Lisa Schultes, her husband Dan O’Connell, and their children, Lizzie and Jimmy; father-in-law, Dr. Clarence Bell; and brother-in-law, Dr. Rick Bell, his wife Karen Bell, and their children Taylor and Courtney.

A visitation will be held on Friday, April 8th at 5:30 PM at Porter Loring Mortuary North, with a reflection vigil at 7:00 PM. Funeral Mass will be held on Saturday, April 9th at 10:00 AM at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church (4201 De Zavala Rd), with a reception to follow.
