Baptism

Classes are required for parents and sponsors. We offer classes for those who plan to have their child baptized at St. Francis of Assisi Church, as well as for parishioners who will be sponsors at another parish. Parents and sponsors preparing to baptize a child under age 7 may register online at www.sfasat.org/baptism.  Babysitting is provided during preparation classes.

First Eucharist and Reconciliation

At home, with materials provided by the parish, parents guide the preparation for their children to receive these two sacraments of initiation.  Two years of classroom religious education are required before receiving the sacraments; the second year of classroom instruction may be concurrent with the parent-guided sacramental preparation instruction. For more information and to register, contact Miriam Flores in the church office.

Catechumenate For Children

The Catechumenate for Children (Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults [R.C.I.A.] adapted for children) is a program for families with children over age 7 who seek baptism, and children over age 10 who wish to receive sacraments of Reconciliation and Holy Communion. Contact Larry Perry in the parish office for more information.

Confirmation

Preparation for high school juniors and seniors begins the last week of September and continues through May. The program consists of weekly sessions and a mandatory retreat. Conferring of the sacrament takes place in May or June. For more details and to register, contact Jordan Lux at the Parish Office or email at jlux@sfasat.org

Adult Confirmation

Preparation is available for adults who have not yet received this sacrament. Adults who desire to receive the sacrament of Confirmation prepare through formal instruction, reflection, and group discussion. Contact Sr. Rose Kruppa in the church office about new classes forming.

RCIA (Christian Rite of Initiation for Adults)

Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults (RCIA) is a process of spiritual conversion and growth, over time, in one’s relationship with God and the Catholic Church, a faith journey where adults and children are fully welcomed into the Catholic Church.

If you’re interested in exploring a relationship with Jesus Christ; inquiring about the Catholic Church; becoming Catholic; coming home to the life of the Church; or being fully initiated into the Catholic Church through the celebration of the Sacraments of Confirmation and Eucharist, WE WELCOME YOU!

The RCIA group meets on Sunday mornings. We attend the 8:30 am Mass and then have a formal period of study, reflection, and prayer from 9:30 until 11:00 am in the JP II Room in the San Damiano Building.  Enrollment is open year-round. Readiness for reception of sacraments is discerned with the individual and RCIA team.

Marriage

At least nine months prior to their expected wedding date, engaged couples associated with St. Francis of Assisi Catholic community need to contact Deacon Mike and Cathy Portele at mportele@sfasat.org. The marriage formation process must be complete before a wedding date may be finalized.

Anointing of the Sick

This sacrament is available upon request for individuals anticipating major surgery, suffering a major chronic illness, or just before the time of death. Please contact the parish office staff to schedule. A healing Mass open to all members of the parish community is offered a couple of times a year.
