To Celebrate a Life of Love: Hector Vidal Huertas

September 12, 1938-February 16, 2022

Hector Vidal Huertas went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, February 16, 2022 after a short illness. He was born in Vieques, Puerto Rico on September 12, 1938 to Providencio and Prudencia Figueroa Huertas.

He proudly served in the U.S. Army for over 22 years, including two tours in Vietnam where he was awarded a Purple Heart. Upon his military retirement, he graduated from the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor in Belton, Texas, and he returned to serving our nation as a civil servant.

Once fully retired, he was a full-time golfer and world traveler, never letting the grass grow under his feet. He took great pride in mentoring and spoiling his grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his beloved wife Maria and his son Hector V. “Tito” Huertas, Jr. He is survived by his son Lawrence (Yvonne) Huertas of California, his son Luis Huertas of New Jersey, his son Hector T. (Susan) Huertas of Pueblo, Colorado, his daughters Jenny Sprute and Erlinda (Edward) Feigenbaum of San Antonio Texas. His is also survived by his pride and joy, his grandchildren Zack, Laura, Hannah, Ashley, Avril, and his great-grandchildren Benjamin, Evie, and Tieni who all loved him and will miss him dearly.

The Funeral Mass of Resurrection will be celebrated at 11:30 am on Thursday, May 26, 2022 at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church. Burial with military honors will take place at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery at 2 pm.
