St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church has launched a new ministry: “ Mobile Loaves and Fishes ”, a social outreach ministry to the homeless and indigent working poor . The MLF shiny white and silver “taco trucks” are a familiar sight in Austin , New Orleans, and San Antonio, and due in part to a gracious gift from our sister parish St. Mark the Evangelist, there will be one more shiny white and silver truck driving the streets of San Antonio, this one carrying the St . Francis of Assisi banner into the community, providing food, clothing and dignity to those in need.

There is a quote from our patron saint, Francis of Assisi, “ Start by doing what's necessary; then do what's possible; and suddenly you are doing the impossible. ” We're at the “ start by doing what's necessary ” phase of our ministry, seeking and training volunteers, and the response has been fantastic over five hundred parishioners have stepped forward. By April 15 th we'll be ready to launch our “ Then do what's possible ” phase. Take a look at all the ministries that make up Mobile Loaves & Fishes. If you find a fit come join us, as our parish launches this new ministry. Who knows? You may someday be part of our “ And suddenly you are doing the impossible ” phase.

Time: We ask for your prayers for the success of this ministry – that we may be able to reach out and embrace those who are hungry and abandoned.

Talent: Mobile Loaves and Fishes offers a variety of volunteer opportunities – boiling eggs, soliciting donations, preparing sandwiches, loading the truck, maintaining and cleaning the truck, stocking shelves, and delivering meals and companionship to those in need.

Treasures: We also need your financial support in order to make this ministry a success. Your donations will enable us to reach out to the greater community of San Antonio to provide nutritious meals to the needy.
