To Celebrate a Life of Love: Eugenia Navarro Solis

September 24, 1924 – June 30, 2017

Eugenia Navarro Solis was born in San Antonio, Texas, on September 24, 1924, to Joe Angel and Concepcion M. Navarro. She passed away on June 30, 2017, in San Antonio, Texas.

She is survived by her two children, Sandra Judy Solis and Robert Joseph Solis of San Antonio, brother Robert Navarro, sister Irene Doherty, grandchildren Sarah, Ryan, and Jake Solis, and numerous nieces and nephews. Deceased brothers Jodes, Edward, and Ramon Navarro. Also surviving is her former spouse, Tiburcio M. Solis of San Antonio.

Eugenia, who was more so called by the name of Jean or Jeanie, grew up on the West Side of San Antonio. She spoke often of growing up during the Great Depression and always told stories to her children about the hardships she experienced with her family during those times. She graduated from Fox Tech High School and worked for a brief period in Civil Service at Kelly Air Force Base in San Antonio.

Eugenia was a 5th generation descendant of Jose Antonio Navarro, who was a lawyer that served as a representative to the Republic of Texas Congress, a delegate to the Convention of 1845, a Senator in the Texas Legislature, and one of the few Mexican signers of the Texas Declaration of Independence. She was very proud of her family genealogy and always reminded her children to “never forget” that family history.

Eugenia was known as a caring and compassionate woman. She would go out of her way sometimes in a carefree manner to provide assistance to others. She was the caregiver for ill family members or friends of the family, giving special care and attention to her father in his later years. She continued helping others well into her elderly years.

In remembrance, a memorial Mass will be held at 6:30 pm on Wednesday, July 26 at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church, 4201 De Zavala Road, San Antonio, TX 78249. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to the St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church Mobile Loaves & Fishes Ministry.
