Claudia’s Tijerina Life & Legacy

Claudia’s funeral will be taking place on August 7, 2024 at 11:30 am at St. Francis of Assisi.

It is with immense sadness and heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our beloved mother, Claudia Lorraine Tijerina. She entered into eternal peace surrounded by her loved ones in San Antonio on July 11, 2024 after a courageous battle with ovarian cancer. She was a devoted mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend.

Claudia was born on March 14, 1974 to Eduardo and Aurora Tijerina in Laredo, Texas. She was the eldest of five children and loved being a big sister and “second-mother” to her younger sisters and brother. She studied and became an educator for nearly three decades. Her true passion in life was being a mother to her two children who were her entire world - Robert and Lauren, and later a grandmother (Mimi) to Julian and Aniyah. She was so proud of her children and grandchildren, and her love for her family and friends will always be cherished and remembered.

Claudia is survived by her son, Robert Ortega; her daughter, Lauren Salazar; her daughter-in-law, Cassandra Martinez; her grandchildren, Julian Ramos and Aniyah Ortega; her sisters Denise Tijerina Villarreal (Alan Villareal), Melissa Spruiell (Jake Spruiell), Christine Yoder (Vincent Yoder), and brother Eduardo “Wayo” Tijerina; as well as her nieces and nephews, and numerous uncles, aunts, and cousins.

Those who knew Claudia and loved her were in awe of her bravery and strength as she battled ovarian cancer for twelve years. She remained incredibly faithful and steadfast in her complete trust of God, and often spoke of her unending faith. Claudia was a beautiful person inside and out. Her smile was so bright, it would light up the whole room. She cared so deeply for her family and the people around her. She was passionate and kind. She will be forever missed.

The family wishes to thank all of her doctors and surgeons over the years, particularly Dr. Antonio Santillan and Dr. David Sommerhalder, and nurses and staff at NEXT Oncology for their excellent care of our mother.
