Ronald Bruce Layer
Ron’s funeral will take place on November 8 at 11 am at St. Francis of Assisi followed by a reception at 12:30 pm in Henke Hall.
Ron Bruce Layer, a cherished husband, father, grandfather, and dedicated community member, passed away peacefully on October 19, 2024, in his beloved hometown of San Antonio, Texas. Born in San Antonio, he lived a life rooted in faith, service, and love, leaving an indelible mark on all who knew him.
Ron was the cherished son of Clara Shipp and Lt. Col. Eugene Edward Layer, now reunited with them, along with his brothers, Michael Stephen and Phillip Edward, who preceded him in death. He is survived by his loving wife of 50 years, Vicki Waldron, with whom he built a life filled with love and laughter. Together, they raised two wonderful children, Jessica Frye (David) and Ryan Layer (Lindsey), who brought immense joy and pride into Ron's life. He was also the adored grandfather of five grandchildren, who will forever cherish his memory and the lessons he imparted.
A proud alumnus of Texas A&M University, class of 1971, Ron went on to graduate from St. Mary's Law School in 1974. His education laid a foundation for a life characterized by wisdom and integrity. Ron was not only a devoted family man but also a committed servant to his community and faith. A charter member of the Knights of Columbus Council 15240, Ron served as a Past Grand Knight and Faithful Navigator of the Knights of Columbus 2102 Assembly. His leadership and dedication to these roles exemplified his tireless commitment to service and the betterment of his community.
As an active member of St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church, Ron's faith was a guiding force throughout his life. He was a member of Mobile Loaves and Fishes, where he demonstrated his compassion and generosity by serving those in need.
Ron's legacy will live on in the many lives he touched with his kindness, wisdom, and unwavering faith. He leaves behind a legacy of love, dedication, and service that will continue to inspire all who knew him. His memory will be cherished by his family, friends, and community, who find comfort in knowing that he is at peace, embraced by the love of his family and faith.
